My Hair During Pregnancy
Going more natural hair products is healthier for you which is especially important during pregnancy.
Though my hair looked a little shinier and had less hair falling out during my pregnancy. I still wanted a good shampoo and conditioner that would keep my hair soft and shiny and also be healthier for my growing baby.
My hair has always been on the thick and frizzy side and I’ve had trouble in the past finding good shampoos and conditioners that work for my hair.
As a teen I remember comparing myself to Hermione from Harry Potter in the first few movies when her hair was big and puffy and a little frizzy. I always had clumps of hair coming out in my brush and in the shower.
Now even more hair is coming out postpartum.
I find it interesting that this wasn’t happening when I was a couple months into my pregnancy.
Anyway though there were some hair improvements that came with pregnancy. My hair was still kind of puffy and frizzy.

How I Cared For My Hair
I am not gonna lie I am a bit lazy when it come to my hair. I take daily showers and wash my hair every other day with shampoo and conditioner.
I don’t use hair serums, or hair masks, or hair spray or hair gel. I also don’t blow dry my hair or use any curlers or straighteners. Except maybe for a wedding or some special occasion. On a normal day… most days I just let my hair air dry.
This quite often results in my hair being poofy and frizzy and sometimes tangled. When I brush my hair after it dries it just gets even poofier. However I have made a breakthrough with my hair. Now I am sure it is different for everyone, because woman have different hair types just like different skin types.
Anyway I found a shampoo and conditioner that have done wonders for my hair. My routine has only slightly changed as well. So now I have shiny hair, that is wavy and soft and not frizzed up or poofy like Hermione’s. I am sooo happy I found something that works for me.
My New Simple Routine and Hair Care Products
So the only thing I changed to my routine is so simple. I use a comb in the shower to de-tangle my hair. I make sure to lather conditioner into my hair let it sit for a minute or so first and then I start de-tangling.
I needed to change my shampoo and conditioner to a more natural healthier product because of my pregnancy. I used SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo (affiliate link) and SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner (affiliate link). These smell so good! I wasn’t sure how they would work at first and they were okay but not the best. My hair felt dry like it needed more moisturizing. I continued to use it just because it was such low toxicity for the sake of my baby.
No longer pregnant What I am using now is Herbal Essences Bio Renew Shampoo and Conditioner. The one I am using is the Honey one. It’s 90% natural and leaves my hair moisturized, smelling good and soft. It is a 1 on the EWG Scale according to ingredients.

About The Natural Hair Products
I never thought there was anything bad about the hair products I used before because I didn’t know about the harmful ingredients they contain or know how bad some of them really were. Little did I know I was using hair products filled with toxic chemicals that can affect myself and an unborn baby.
I also found out just because a bottle says natural doesn’t mean it is. The products I list below are have at least a 4 star rating and I have researched the toxicity level through EWG. 1 is the lowest and 10 is the most toxic.
I include the rating. Which most in this list are at a 1 or 2.
